2001 WORLD CHAMPIONS!
The Diamondbacks came back from 2 devastating losses in Games 4 and 5 of the World Series to win the greatest series ever played.  My son and I made it to Games 1, 6 and 7, and had the time of our lives.  Thanks D'backs, from a former frustrated Red Sox fan, for the wonderful memories!!!

tixpic.jpg (60654 bytes) My Game 6 tickets...waited in line 18 hours for these babies!

My Diamondbacks rode a roller coaster to the World Series title....  From Game 5 of the Division Series against St. Louis, in which Tony Womack brought home Danny Bautista in the bottom of the 9th with the winning run, (I was there!), to their destruction of the Atlanta Braves, and finally, the insanity that was the 2001 World Series.  I waited 4 hours in line at Tucson Electric Park for tickets to Game 1...I got to the ticket line during the 5th inning of Game 5 with Atlanta, and there were already a good 200 people in line.  I was smarter for Games 6 and 7...   As soon as I heard tickets were going on sale at 9am the following day, I went to TEP and got in line at 4pm....there were 7 of us there.  By 6pm, there were 250 people in line, and overnight, we had probably 600 people sleeping at the ballpark.   I was able to take my son to Games 1, 6 and 7, and we'll never forget the wonderful memories we had those days.  Watching my team celebrate a World Series victory was just too amazing for words.  Especially when you've been a Red Sox fan for much of your life...  The feeling was unreal.  And the funny thing was, we had all settled into a state of resigned depression, when the Yankees took a 2-1 lead in Game 7.   We started cheering in the bottom of the 9th to show support, but didn't go crazy until Mariano Rivera (who's usually unhittable!) threw Damian Miller's bunt into center field.  When Tony Womack singled to tie the game, I got a very weird feeling in my stomach, like I was about to see something I never thought I'd get to see.  My son isn't the biggest baseball fan, but he was going nuts as well.  We waved white pom poms and our D'backs National League Champions flag back and forth, and when Luis Gonzales singled, I could barely see it hit the outfield with all the people jumping up and down.   What a finish!  We stayed a good 90 minutes after the game for the ceremonies, and the atmosphere in Phoenix (and Tucson!) was just incredible.  Thanks D'backs!   Good luck in '02!  It'll be darn near impossible to equal what we went through in 2001.  It'll never feel quite the same :).

Here's us just outside the 3rd floor entrances to Bank One Ballpark, about 30 minutes before Game 6 began.  We waved pom-poms, National League Champion flags, and "K" cards (for strikeouts).

My son, me, and three friends from work, Jeff, Sharon and Dan at Game 6.  By the 4th inning, it was 15-0, Arizona, so we had a lot of time to explore the ballpark, check out the food, and horse around.
