Beware Sleestak!!! My favorite Krofft shows
were:
These are Sleestak, by the way! They were pretty scary....as a 7 year old kid, I can remember really being spooked by these tall, hissing, menacing lizards. Never mind that they couldn't walk very fast, they carried around pathetic bows and arrows, and they never wanted to kill or eat the Marshalls - they wanted to sacrifice them to their god, who lived in a pit full of dry ice... If you listen REALLY hard, late at night, when your room is totally dark, you can hear the sound of a Sleestak in your closet! Trivia: NBA All-Star Bill Lambeer played a Sleestak on Land of the Lost for 2 seasons, 1974-75. It seems the Kroffts recruited several UCLA basketball players to fill the suits of the Sleestak - they wanted them to be tall and intimidating. Sleestak stand about 7 feet tall.
Now THAT was quality Saturday morning tv!! Did Will Marshall ever wash that blue shirt he wore day in, day out? Some of those other shows, though....Lidsville, the Bugaloos, Dr. Shrinker, the Lost Saucer, Space Nuts, Electrawoman & Dynagirl??.....I often wonder what Sid and Marty were smoking in the 70's :)... Especially Lidsville....Eddie Munster is now a teenager, and he falls into a giant hat into a land of living hats. Far fetched, maybe...believeable? sure! Not surprisingly, Butch Patrick HATED doing Lidsville. Krofft managed to land star after star, from Jack Wild and Johnny Whitaker to Bob Denver and Jim Nabors. Land
of the Lost and H.R. Pufnstuf are now available on DVD!
