John Corbett is an actor and singer,
best known
for his roles in Northern Exposure, Sex and
the
City, and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
BEGINNINGS
Born and raised in West Virginia, John Corbett moved
out to California and found work in a steel factory. He
worked there for six years until an injury forced him to
stop. At the same time, John was attending the local
city college and decided to sit in on a friend's drama
class. During the class, he was invited on stage for an
exercise and became captivated with the craft. He acted
in several college theater productions in which his
drama teacher recognized his talent and encouraged him
to pursue Hollywood.

CHRIS STEVENS, Northern Exposure, 1990-96
As Chris Stevens on 'Northern
Exposure', John played an existential ex-con who found a
new home in Cicely, Alaska, and found a place for his
philosophies as the DJ for the local radio station, KBHR
(K-Bear). It was John's first major role, and
Chris' character fit right in with the offbeat
population of Cicely. While living in Cicely,
Chris met the half-brother he never knew he had, dated
Maggie O'Connell (Janine Turner), inherited $30,000,
became a partner in the Brick (the local
restaurant/bar), became a monk (sort of...) and created
some incredible modern art, including one piece dubbed
'Aurora Borealis', to decorate the area around his
trailer... Contrary to the show's setting, Northern
Exposure was filmed in Roslyn, Washington, which became
"Cicely, Alaska" during the show's 5 year production
run. There are still some remnants of the show on
display in Roslyn, including the front window of "KBHR"
and the famous "Roslyn's Cafe" painted sign. Each
year, fans of the show gather in Roslyn for
Moosefest!

AIDAN SHAW, Sex and the
City, 1998-2004
As
furniture maker and later, bar owner Aidan Shaw on 'Sex
and the City', John returned to the small screen and won
over a generation of women's hearts. He also stole
the heart of Carrie Bradshaw'(Sarah Jessica Parker), but
she broke his, by cheating on him with Mr. Big....she
came back begging to him a season later, and the romance
was back....she even accepted Aidan's marriage proposal.
But, being the strange person she is, Carrie decided she
wanted more of the single life, and ultimately broke
Aidan's heart again, ('...I can't believe I'm back here
again....'). What was she thinking?? Maybe
deep down, she really just didn't like his dog, Pete...
John went on to land the starring role in the 2003 TV
series, Lucky, playing Michael "Lucky" Linkletter.
The show was cancelled because of poor ratings two weeks
after receiving an Emmy nomination.

IAN MILLER, My Big Fat Greek
Wedding, 2002
After a string of supporting roles on the silver
screen, (Volcano, Tombstone, Serendipity, Flight of the
Intruder), John landed the role of Ian Miller in the
2002 film "My Big Fat Greek Wedding", which went on to
gross more than $200 million. The film came out of
nowhere, and word-of-mouth advertising about it spread
like wildfire. John plays a man who falls
hopelessly in love with a Greek Orthodox American girl
from Chicago with a very Greek family... it may be all
Greek to him, but he jumps through every hoop to profess
his love for her to the family. I believe Nia
Vardalos wrote and directed this film, which is loosely
based on her life. The movie was a standout film
in a summer dominated by action flicks and horror movie
sequels. It spawned a less-than-successful
television series, "My Big Fat Greek Life", which John
passed on.
John has gone on to earn a starring role
opposite Kate Hudson in Raising Helen (2004), and has
several projects set for 2006 and 2007.
From Amazon.com:
"John
Corbett has always brought an easy grace to his acting
roles, whether in the acclaimed TV series "Sex And The
City" and "Northern Exposure" or in the hit film "My Big
Fat Greek Wedding." His music carries the same natural,
down-to-earth spirit – only this is not role-playing.
Recorded in Nashville, Corbett’s self-titled debut takes
country music’s earthy emotionalism and gives it a
rowdy, rocking kick."

From the Webmaster...
I've been a
volunteer for the Make-a-Wish Foundation for many years. Many
times, I get asked what I would wish for. My friend Cheryl once asked me, if I had a wish to meet
someone, who would it be? I've met a few famous folks... Sally Ride,
Val Kilmer, David Hasselhoff, and Luis Gonzalez, over the last
couple of years. So I
thought about the members of my beloved Diamondbacks....I thought of some of my favorite
musical artists....I thought of George W....but he's awfully busy with the Middle East and
gas prices and stuff....and finally I thought of the guy who got me hooked on both 'Sex and the City' and
'Northern Exposure'....
John Corbett.
I never saw Northern Exposure
during its original run... it wasn't until select episodes
were released on VHS that I finally caught the show. I
couldn't get enough... and it was mainly due to the offbeat,
irreverent, thoughtful Chris Stevens. Chris' personality was
so... charming, so attractive to me.. and John's good looks didn't
hurt either! John did an amazing job of assimilating the role
of Chris, spouting off on the air, about everything from nuclear
physics to same sex relationships with such a whimsical,
knowledgeable viewpoint. I'd have been glued to my radio for
Chris in the Morning every day!
When John appeared on Sex and
the City for the first time, I was thrilled. For one thing, I
really miss Northern Exposure... I'm still waiting for the reunion
movie, by the way!! But it was also nice to see that he was
just as hot as ever! How could Carrie Bradshaw not fall for
the down-to-earth Aidan Shaw, a guy who seemed so perfect for her...
but Carrie was designed as a character with flaws - everything from
vanity to indecision... and an expensive shoe fetish to boot (no pun
intended). And soon Aidan found himself on the outside looking
in. But John's character was so popular, soon he was right
back on the show again, and this time he nearly landed the girl,
before Carrie finally went psycho on him a second time and let him
go. John won me over with his performance... I still don't see
what Chris Noth had that he didn't. :)

Editorial: John Corbett's new CD
(taken from Amazon.com)
"We have all seen Hollywood stars thinking
they could do that singing thang"...."Many of these efforts have
come with a lack of commitment and often times with an equivalent
lack of talent. John Corbett and his new release of his own record
and label is an admirable first effort. John has genuine talent and
skills, he pulls through the songs with a comfortable and easy
effort, never trying to reach beyond his vocal range, or relying
upon slick studio enhancements. Songs like Bottle of Whiskey and
Good to Go have a folksy, earthy and genuine simplicity that works
on disc and will also work in live venues, and John is comfortable
in letting the songs roll without pushing them hard. It wont hurt
that his distinctive voice is easily recognized in his singing and
will probably appeal to the female audience that he will rightly
pursue, yet his guess that guys will like the music and songs is
probably prophetic, especially with tracks like Bottle of Whiskey.
John is committing 2 years to his band mates in his musical effort,
I think he has already hit the mark. Buy this album, I did and its a
winner!!!"
